Shadow Puppertry! where was it invented?

In greece we have the KARAGEOZIE puppetry...collection...i knwo turkey has it,s own and a few other arabic countrys have some sort of shadow pupperty ..of course the punch and judy was later version of the shadow puppetry..i would like to know where was shadow puppetry invented ..i heard it came from ..siam (thialand) is this true?
