I may have to get braces and I want to know how it feels and what you have to deal with?
As someone who has braces right now, they are difficult to deal with for the first week or so. You have to learn to eat, talk, and deal with a rack of metal glued to your teeth for a good couple years. When you first get them on, your teeth will feel a little tender for the rest of the day, and sore for the next couple days. This is because in the first couple months, your teeth will be moving the most. Stock up your kitchen and pantry with soft foods such as yogurt, soup, smoothies, soft fruit, and anything else that will be easy to eat. Braces generally don't make your lips visibly larger, but they do cause you to spit sometimes when you talk. There are no screws or anything involved with braces- if you have a bite problem (like me) then you will be required to wear elastics half way through your duration with braces. Elastics are easy to wear, but hard to use sometimes when you have to take them out to eat or brush your teeth. Usually when people get their braces removed they do not have any yellow spots or white spots from the brackets. This will happen, though, if you do not brush your teeth twice a day for 2 minutes recommended, and floss. Oral hygiene is key to achieving a great smile, and will speed up your process and allow you to get your braces off faster. A word of advice- ALWAYS listen to your Orthodontist and do everything they tell you to do, or you will face a longer time with braces and will not like the end result, especially after paying thousands of dollars to improve your smile. It will be well worth it in the long run.
