Why does ambien make me feel drunk?

I take Ambien to sleep at night. I'm a 50 year old woman in peri-menopause and have not slept well for a few years now. Part of it was due to severe muscle pain from fybromyalgia like symptoms and part because my husband snores like a chain saw. The Ambien works GREAT, but why does it make me feel drunk right before it sends me off to dream land. I say the stupidest things to my kids when they come to kiss me good night, or if I'm posting on facebook, sometimes I'm shocked the next morning by what I've said and have no memory of having said it. Are Roofies incorporated into this drug?
